NIRVANA 1990 STACHE'S
Here are my 4 photos of Nirvana, I took these myself at the May 9, 1990 show at Stache's in Columbus, Ohio. Please do not reproduce without permission.
here's what i remember about the gig.
i wasn't a nirvana fan. i was mainly interested in them because chris cornell used to wear nirvana shirts in all the soundgarden photos of the era. soundgarden was my favorite band in 1989-90.
i didn't own any nirvana records & hadn't even heard them before i went to the stache's show. i went to the show alone & arrived at stache's very early, like around 6pm. the bassist was the easiest to spot because of how tall he was. i didn't realize at the time that he was even in the band, i just saw him walking through the club repeatedly. we must've shared a joke or something at some point because we had some kind of rapport going, the bassist and i. after the show he even gave me a free nirvana logo sticker!
i wasn't a fan before their set & the performance did little to change my mind. i was mostly bored the entire time, preferring as i did the heavier & more metallic sounds of soundgarden & tad. i took these few photos just to remind myself i'd even been to the show.
i collected a flier from outside the club for the show, which also featured the local band the barbed wire dolls. i did buy a nirvana shirt, which featured the nude photograph parody of the lennon/ono 'two virgins' artwork on the front and a big plus and minus sign on the back. all of which was given away to a girlfriend in the mid 1990s!
